Driving Under the Influence Nearly Leads to Head On Collison (Douglasville)

On July 03, 2021, Officer J Stager was dispatched to the scene of an accident at 3270 Chapel Hill Road north of Brookmont Parkway.

The accident occurred at 01:42.

Mr. G Capers was driving a BMW 535 and Mr. A Hartley was driving a Volkswagen Jetta SE.

Mr. Capers stated that he was driving southbound on Chapel Hill when Mr. Hartley’s vehicle entered his lane.

Mr. Hartley stated that he was traveling northbound on Chapel Hill when Mr. Capers’ vehicle entered his lane.

Both drivers asserted that they swerved to avoid a head on collision.

Mr. Capers stated that he swerved left and landed in a ditch on the roadside.

Mr. Hartley also landed in a ditch as he swerved.

Mr. Capers had the smell of alcohol on his breath and advised that he had been drinking before driving.

He declined a breathalyzer test but agreed to take a field sobriety test which he failed.

Mr. Capers also advised that he is on medication which he could have used before operating a motor vehicle.

He was cited and arrested for “Failure to maintain lane” and “Driving while under the influence of alcohol”.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries but were cleared by EMS.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were impounded by Super Quick Inc.

The weather and surface condition were good, and the light condition was dark: not lighted.

The accident was reported in Douglasville, Douglas County.
