Seventeen crashes on the Perimeter - August AMT Round-up
August 16–22, 2026. One highway in a week of 517 crashes.
On I-285 last week the reports kept naming the same highway. Seventeen crashes put the Perimeter down as the road. Three of those reports listed an injury. Three were at South Cobb Drive. Two more were at I-75.
The week ran August 16 through 22. Thirteen departments sent reports. We counted 517 crashes in what arrived; 175 of those forms listed an injury. Cobb’s 184 are Tuesday through Saturday only.
Eleven of the seventeen Perimeter crashes were in Cobb. Six were in Sandy Springs. Wednesday, August 19, was the heavy day: eleven of the seventeen, from early morning through late afternoon. Most were two-vehicle crashes. A few were marked commercial. Three were marked hit-and-run. One, late on August 21 at I-75, was also marked as a work zone.
South Cobb Drive is the corner the Cobb reports came back to. One at 7:40 in the morning on the 19th. Another at 2:51 that afternoon, with a third crash a few hundred feet west two minutes earlier. A fourth, on the evening of the 21st, listed three injuries.
The rest of the Perimeter that week was ones and twos at the usual ramps. Seventeen reports on a road that busy is last week’s paper.
The map is the same stream of reports, recent weeks on one page:
It rolls forward. It is not this week frozen, and it is not every crash in metro Atlanta. It is the offices that send reports, for the dates they sent.
We do not name drivers. We do not publish license plates or home addresses.
