On July 13, 2021, Officer D B Alcorn was dispatched to the scene of an accident on Sandy Plains Road south of Ebenezer Road.
The accident occurred at 14:32.
Mr. J Carrico was driving a Toyota Camry LE, Mr. C Griffin was driving a Nissan Versa and Mr. V Quilelli Astudillo was driving a Toyota Corolla.
All three vehicles were traveling in the left lane northbound on Sandy Plains Road
Mr. Carrico stated that an uninvolved vehicle made a left turn across Sandy Plains Road, cutting off the traffic traveling northbound.
He further stated that Mr. Astudillo’s vehicle veered to the left and stooped, avoiding a collision with the uninvolved vehicle.
Mr. Griffin applied his braked to come to a stop behind Mr. Astudillo’s vehicle and Mr. Carrico attempted to brake to void a collision with Mr. Griffin’s vehicle.
There was insufficient space for Mr. Carrico to bring his vehicle to a stop and his vehicle rear-ended Mr. Griffin’s vehicle.
Mr. Griffin corroborated this version and further stated that Mr. Carrico’s vehicle pushed his vehicle into the rear of Mr. Astudillo’s vehicle with the force of the collision.
Mr. Astudillo stated that he was stopped on Sandy Plains Road waiting for traffic to clear when his vehicle was rear-ended. He further stated that he possibly felt two impacts.
He did not recall a vehicle turning in front of his vehicle.
Mr. Griffin complained of an injury to his hand and was transported to Kennestone Hospital by Metro Services.
Neither Mr. Carrico nor Mr. Astudillo complained of any injuries.
All three vehicles sustained disabling damage and were removed by Marietta Wrecker.
Mr. Carrico was cited in terms of O.C.G.A. 40-6-49 “Following too closely”.
The weather was cloudy and the surface and light conditions were good.
The accident was reported in Cobb County.
