Fleeing from Officers Leads to High Intensity Collison (Clayton Co.)

On August 13, 2025, a high-intensity collision occurred on Fayetteville Rd near Mundy’s Mill Rd in Clayton County, Georgia, involving Reese Neelly, 40, driving a 2017 Ford Fusion, and Alec Franklin, a law enforcement officer in a 2025 Ford Explorer. The incident unfolded during a police pursuit under wet road conditions, leading to a deliberate vehicle maneuver.

Neelly, fleeing from law enforcement, drove eastbound in the westbound lanes in a stolen vehicle. Franklin, operating a marked police vehicle with active lights and sirens, intentionally performed a PIT maneuver, striking the rear passenger side of Neelly’s car with the front driver’s side of his vehicle. Neelly’s car spun onto the grass median but regained control and continued fleeing. Neelly was later apprehended, sustaining minor injuries requiring treatment at Piedmont Fayette by Clayton County EMS. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, with no injuries reported for Franklin.

The incident was captured by WatchGuard footage and documented by Officer Thomas of the Georgia State Patrol. The cause of the accident was Neelly’s reckless flight from law enforcement, compounded by the intentional PIT maneuver executed by Franklin to stop the fleeing vehicle.
