Merging Lanes Leads to an Accident on Hwy 5 (Douglasville)

On June 29, 2021, Officer M Shaft was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Stewart Parkway and Highway 5.

The accident occurred at 20:22.

Ms. A Green was driving a Honda CR-V and Mr. M Hershberger was driving a Ford Focus.

Ms. Green stated that she was in the straight lane northbound on Highway 5.

Ms. Green further stated that she had her blinker on to merge into the turn left lane.

When the traffic signal turned green, she began to move into the left turn lane as she believed he had slowed down to allow her into the lane.

However, she collided with Mr. Hershberger’s vehicle as he began moving.

Mr. Hershberger stated that he was in the left turn lane to go north on Highway 5 when Ms. Green’s vehicle collided with his vehicle.

Neither driver sustained injuries and both vehicles sustained slight damage and were removed by their respective drivers.

Ms. Green was held at fault for the incident.

The weather and surface condition were good, and the light condition was dusk.

The accident was reported in Douglasville, Douglas County.
