Three Notable Crashes in Sandy Springs – Week of July 19–25, 2026

1. Detached U-Haul Trailer on Abernathy Road A driver traveling eastbound on Abernathy Road lost a U-Haul trailer when the hitch failed. The trailer crossed the raised median into the westbound lanes, struck a light pole, and damaged landscaping. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. The driver was cited for operating with an unsecured load.

Abernathy Road continues to see equipment and load-related incidents in addition to the more common rear-end crashes.

2. Tractor-Trailer Sideswipe on I-285 Westbound A passenger vehicle traveling in lane #3 was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer that drifted from lane #2. The truck continued without stopping. The passenger vehicle sustained minor damage; no injuries were reported. The driver was able to photograph the company name and DOT number.

I-285 remains a high-volume corridor where lane discipline and commercial vehicle awareness are critical.

3. Multi-Vehicle Rear-End Chain on Powers Ferry Road A westbound driver struck the vehicle ahead, which was pushed into a third vehicle. Disabling damage occurred to at least two of the cars. No injuries were reported on scene.

Rear-end collisions continue to dominate Sandy Springs reports, especially during afternoon and early-evening traffic.

Rear-end collisions remained the clear majority of incidents. Following too closely, improper lane changes, and driveway/entry conflicts on Roswell Road and the freeway system were the most frequent contributing factors. Overall volume was higher than average this week (roughly 65–75 crashes).
