Tired Driver Leads to an Accident at the Intersection of Dallas Hwy and Ernest Barrett Pkwy

On June 22, 2021, Officer D S Hill was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Dallas Highway and Ernest Barrett Parkway.

The accident occurred at 06:15.

Mr. E Lofton was driving a Honda Civic and Mr. J Snider was driving a RAM 1500 SLT.

Mr. Lofton stated that he was driving eastwards in lane 1 on Dallas Highway approaching the traffic light at Ernest Barrett Parkway.

Mr. Snider stated that he was westbound on Dallas Highway, in the left turn lane at the intersection to turn south on Ernest Barrett Parkway.

He further stated that as the light turned green, he proceeded forward into the intersection, when his vehicle was struck by Mr. Lofton’s vehicle.

Mr. Lofton stated that he was tired and did not realize that the lane next to him was only a turning lane.

As he saw traffic in that lane move, he thought it was clear for him to move as well.

Only when his vehicle collided with Mr. Snider’s vehicle did he realise his error.

Extensive damage was sustained by Mr. Lofton’s vehicle which was removed by Howards Wrecker. Mr. Snider’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and he removed his own vehicle.

Mr. Lofton was cited in terms of O.C.G.A. 40-6-20 “Failure to obey a traffic control device”.

The weather was rainy, the surface condition was wet, and the lighting condition was dark: lighted.

The accident was reported in Cobb County.
