On April 27, 2021 Officer J R Donelson was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Whitner Drive and Vernon Highway.
A Toyota Landcruiser driven by Mr. J Gates and a bicycle ridden by Mr. S Housley were involved in a collision.
Mr. Gates stated that he had almost fully exited his driveway at 5610 Whitner Drive when his vehicle was struck by Mr. Housley’s bicycle, which he had not seen.
The front tire of the bicycle collided with Mr. Gates’ vehicle, damaging the front bumper and quarter panel on the driver’s side.
Mr. Housley stated that he saw Mr. Gate’s vehicle pulling out of the driveway but was unable to avoid the collision.
Witnesses to the accident stated that Mr. Housley was lying on the ground next to his heavily damaged black bicycle. He had been wearing a cycle helmet.
Mr. Housley sustained visible injuries and was transported to North Fulton Hospital.
Mr. Gates was found to be at fault and charged accordingly.
The accident report was filed by the Sandy Springs Police Department.
